Welcome to Beckett

Leeds Beckett University is a modern, professional-based university with a dedicated, diverse community. We pride ourselves on working closely with employers and partners to help our graduates become ready for work, ready for life, and ready to seize all the opportunities that lie ahead.

Our Impact

We recognize the significant role we play as an anchor institution for Leeds and the wider region, maximizing the benefit our presence delivers directly and indirectly to our communities. Our impact is multifaceted and far-reaching, with a focus on economic growth, education, and innovation.

Our university makes a substantial impact on the economy, driven by our teaching and learning, research, and value of our spending. In fact, a recent study by London Economics found that our university delivers a £1.43bn impact on the UK economy every year, with a benefit-to-cost ratio of 6.1:1. This means that for every £1 spent supporting university operations, a £6 return is generated for the UK economy.

Our graduates also have a significant impact on the economy, with every student completing a first degree at Leeds Beckett experiencing a net earnings benefit of £67,000 and a net benefit to the public purse of £60,000. This is a testament to the high-quality education and training we provide, which prepares our students for successful careers and contributes to the growth of the regional economy.

In addition to our economic impact, our world-leading research is making a difference to the major challenges of the 21st Century, such as climate change, health, and inequality. Our research is driven by a desire to address real-world problems and improve the lives of people in our communities.

Our Strategy

Our university has developed a comprehensive strategic plan to guide our activities over the next five years. Our strategy is built around seven key plans, which set out our direction and sharpen our focus to meet the challenges ahead.

One of the main drivers of our strategy is to equip Leeds Beckett to navigate the anticipated government reforms of higher education and to enable us to thrive in the new environment these changes will create. We are committed to delivering excellent education, research, and service that makes a positive and decisive difference to people, organisations, and communities.

Our Impact in Numbers

Our impact is significant, and we are proud of the following statistics:

£1.43bn - Our annual economic impact on the UK economy.

6.1:1 - Our benefit-to-cost ratio, demonstrating the value we deliver for every £1 spent on university operations.

£67k - The net earnings benefit experienced by every student completing a first degree at Leeds Beckett.

£60k - The net benefit to the public purse enjoyed by every student completing a first degree at Leeds Beckett.

4,015 - The number of jobs supported by Leeds Beckett, with almost 3,000 in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

Our University

Our education plan sets out our response to the changes in the higher education sector and our ambitions for the years to come.
