University of Roehampton Pathway by OIEG

The University of Roehampton has a rich history dating back to 1841, when it was founded as Whitelands College, a training college for women teachers.

In 1872, Southlands College was established, providing training for women teachers, while in 1874, Digby Stuart College was opened, offering a training program for young women who wished to teach in Catholic schools.

Later, in 1892, the Froebel Educational Institute was founded in West Kensington, providing educational opportunities for students. The four colleges – Digby Stuart, Froebel, Whitelands, and Southlands – then federated to form the Roehampton Institute of Higher Education (RIHE) in 1975.

The creation of RIHE was approved by the Department of Education and Science in July 1975, and by September of the same year, the first students were enrolled. This marked the beginning of a new era in higher education for the institution.

In the year 2000, Roehampton Institute entered into a federation with the University of Surrey, becoming known as the University of Surrey Roehampton. However, in 2004, the university was granted independence after a four-and-a-half-year federation with the University of Surrey.

This achievement was a significant milestone in the university's history, marking its transition to an independent institution. In 2006, the university's research was recognized in the Top 100 World-Changing Discoveries, solidifying its reputation as a leading institution in education and research.

Today, the University of Roehampton is proud to have marked 175 years since the foundation of Whitelands College in 1841. This achievement is a testament to the university's commitment to providing high-quality education and its dedication to the pursuit of excellence.

Roehampton University Job Outcomes

The university's graduates have gone on to work in various companies, including the NHS, Amazon, Cisco, BT Group, Microsoft, EY, and Deloitte, among others.
